📰 Kingston & Area Local News

🌿 Paradise Protected: Lemoine Point Farm is Ours!

We did it, Kingston! The city officially has the keys to Lemoine Point Farm, and we can all breathe a sigh of relief knowing this piece of paradise isn't going anywhere. It is a massive victory for everyone who loves our local green spaces.

The work isn’t done though. Now comes the next important part: making sure it stays exactly as awesome as it is right now. The community is already brainstorming the best ways to protect its future and keep that gem alive for generations to come.

🚆 All Aboard for Better Rides: The Corridor Train Alliance

We all know the 401 can be a bit of a disaster zone. And it seems bizarre that VIA is planning on routing the new high speed train well north of us. The Corridor Train Alliance gets it too, and they are busy lobbying for improved rail service that actually makes sense for us. Imagine skipping the traffic and zipping along the corridor while someone else does the driving. They are pushing the government to get on board with better, more frequent service that connects our communities properly. It is about time we had a smoother way to get around!

Leading with Heart: Black History Month at Frontenac Secondary

The hallways of Frontenac Secondary School (FSS) were buzzing with excitement recently as the student-led Multicultural Team (MCT) hosted a vibrant Black History Month celebration. This event proved that you are never too young to lead. From student-made Nigerian and Jamaican dishes like Jollof rice and beef patties to a playlist featuring a wide range of Black artists, the celebration was all about making sure every student feels seen and celebrated. MCT founder Vrain Rikhi and students like Gabi Macfarlane worked hard to bring this vision to life, creating a space where diversity isn't just a buzzword but something we actually get together to enjoy. It is inspiring to see our local youth building a community that is welcoming to everyone.

🤝 Moving at the Speed of Relationship: Supporting Our Kashechewan Cree Kin

When over 250 residents from Kashechewan First Nation had to leave their homes due to a water crisis, the Kingston Native Centre and Language Nest (KNCLN) didn’t just see "evacuees"—they saw family. Executive Director Brandon Maracle and his team have been working tirelessly to make sure their "kin" feel supported, providing everything from traditional hot meals like Annie’s jam and bannock to essential cultural programming. It is all about "moving at the speed of relationship," building trust, and ensuring that everyone feels a sense of stability and dignity during a really uncertain time. It is a beautiful reminder of how our community steps up to take care of its own.

🍻 Beer & Business: Chamber on Tap at Grizzly Grill

Thursday, February 26, 2026 | 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM | Grizzly Grill (395 Princess St)

Time to ditch the office chair and grab a cold one! The Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce is bringing back their premium after-hours networking event, Chamber on Tap. Head over to the Grizzly Grill to connect with fellow professionals in a totally relaxed and informal setting. Whether you are looking to practice your elevator pitch, meet others in the local business community or just want to share some advice over a snack, this is the place to be. It is free for members, and with a cash bar on site, it is the perfect way to wrap up your Thursday.

🎤 Soulful Soundcraft: Dominique Fils-Aimé Live

Friday, February 27 at 7:30 PM | Jennifer Velva Bernstein Performance Hall, The Isabel

If you appreciate music that feels like a meticulously crafted world, you need to be at The Isabel this Friday. Double JUNO Award winner Dominique Fils-Aimé is bringing her soulful jazz to the Jennifer Velva Bernstein Performance Hall, and her sound is truly something else. The production is so exquisite and unique—it’s a masterclass in sonic soundcraft that stays with you long after the final note. Her music draws on the deep roots of African-American culture, delivered with a precision and intimacy that has captivated audiences across the globe. Trust me, experiencing a voice this compelling in a room as acoustically perfect as The Isabel is going to be pure magic.

🎬 Sing For Joy: 23 Years of Open Voices at KCFF

Saturday, February 28 | 7:00 PM | The Isabel (390 King St W)

If you've lived in Kingston for any length of time, you almost certainly know someone in the Open Voices Community Choir. This year, the Kingston Canadian Film Festival is honoring their incredible 23-year legacy with a special screening of the new locally produced short film, Sing for Joy: 23 Years of Open Voices. This heart-warming film follows the choir's founding artistic director, Andy Rush, as he prepares for a massive retirement blowout. It is a behind-the-scenes look at the "gritty, grin-inducing" magic that happens when 100+ local voices come together. The short will precede the feature film The Art of Adventure, making for a perfect Saturday night out at The Isabel.
