🌅 Science or Sci-Fi? The Mystery Skyline over Lake Ontario

Did you notice a city skyline appearing out of thin air across the lake this week? A popular thread on Reddit Kingston has locals buzzing about a mysterious "city" visible from Olympic Harbour and other spots along the waterfront. While some joked about icebergs or alien invasions, the real culprit is likely a "Fata Morgana"—a rare superior mirage that bends light to make distant objects like the Oswego nuclear plant or shoreline ice look like towering skyscrapers. It's a cool atmospheric trick that even The Tragically Hip gave a nod to in their song "Morning Moon!"

🍔 Plates of Hope: Kingston Burger Company Feeds Neighbors at Belle Park

Photo by Bill Hall, The Whig-Standard

A big shout out to the team at the Kingston Burger Company. The local crew recently visited Belle Park to provide warm meals to unhoused residents. This initiative was a true community effort, made possible through a partnership with Feed the People, Barriefield Market, Sysco Canada, and Coca-Cola Kingston. As highlighted in a feature by the Whig-Standard, the goal was to provide a "plate of hope" and a sense of dignity for neighbors going through a tough time. It is a great example of local businesses coming together to help out.
