🎵 Music From Miles Around Opens at City Hall, a Free Year-Long Tribute to Kingston's Sound

Kingston’s music story just got its own home. Music From Miles Around, sponsored by Empire Life, opened June 20 at the Market Wing Cultural Space in City Hall and runs free for a full year. The exhibit traces Kingston’s sound from Indigenous musical traditions through record shops, radio stations, and live venues, all the way to The Tragically Hip, with never-before-seen artifacts marking 10 years since their final Kingston concert. Joe’s Jam Space invites visitors to pick up and play real instruments. Open Tuesday through Sunday.

🧠 NEO Clinic Opens a Bigger Home on Innovation Drive, Expanding Neurological Care for Eastern Ontario

Kingston’s neurological care just got a major upgrade. The Neurocentre of Eastern Ontario (NEO Clinic) cut the ribbon June 17 at a brand-new 4,000-square-foot facility at 673 Innovation Drive, more than ten times its original footprint. Mayor Bryan Paterson and MPP Ted Hsu joined staff and patients to celebrate the clinic’s ten examination rooms and expanded team. The expansion bolsters the headache program and adds new neuro physiotherapy services for Parkinson’s, stroke recovery, and balance disorders, aiming to cut wait times for patients across the region.

💡 Kingston Youth Pitch Big Solutions at the 2nd Annual Jr. Mayor's Innovation Challenge

For the second year running, Kingston kids showed up to solve real problems. The Jr. Mayor’s Innovation Challenge, a partnership between BGC South East and the City of Kingston, wrapped its 12-week program with a showcase finale on June 18 at BGC’s STEM and Robotics Centre. Youth ages 10 to 14 worked with engineers and mentors to identify community challenges, build prototypes, and pitch solutions to a panel of judges and city officials. Mayor Bryan Paterson called their ideas “practical and inspiring.”

⚓ From Napanee Lakes to Arctic Waters: Chantelle Lasher Ships Out with the Coast Guard

Chantelle Lasher grew up around the lakes and waterways of Napanee and Amherstview, and those early years on the water planted a seed. Now a 2026 graduate of the Canadian Coast Guard Academy’s Navigation Officer Training Program, Lasher has already sailed the Arctic aboard the CCGS Sir Wilfrid Laurier, spotting wildlife most of us only see in documentaries. She’s quick to note the Coast Guard does far more than search and rescue. Next chapter: a career based in St. John’s, Newfoundland.

🏅 10.38 Seconds: Wyatt Lee Takes Athlete of the Year at Kingston's 42nd Amateur Sports Awards

Kingston’s 42nd annual Amateur Sports Awards lit up Memorial Hall on May 28, with Wyatt Lee taking home the Gus Marker Trophy for Athlete of the Year. The Frontenac Secondary School sprinter ran 10.38 seconds at the 2025 OFSAA championships, breaking a 31-year record to become Canada’s fastest-ever high school sprinter, and heads to NC State on a track scholarship this fall. The Kingston Junior Colts won the inaugural Bill Huntley Team Trophy, three builders of local sport were honoured for lifetime contributions, and Henry Ormsbee earned the Rising Star award in speed skating.

Kingston Community Health Centres is hosting its monthly discussion group today, Monday June 22, on self-acceptance and unlearning stigma. The virtual Zoom session is neuroaffirming, judgment-free, and open to adults across Southeast Ontario exploring life with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, OCD, sensory processing, and more. Local teens who love all things sparkly, this one’s for you. Splatter Hive Studio is hosting Teen Art Night on Wednesday, June 24 at their studio at 66 Concession St in Kingston. This month’s theme is bedazzling: participants get to deck out a variety of objects with crystals and gems in a laid-back creative setting, a great excuse to make something gloriously extra. 🦋 Remembering by the River (Butterfly Release) | Macpherson House, Napanee | Register by June 25

If you’re planning to release a butterfly in memory of a loved one at this summer’s Remembering by the River, the registration deadline is Thursday, June 25. Now in its second year, this butterfly release event is hosted by the Bereavement Association of Ontario and the Museum of Lennox and Addington on Saturday, July 18 at the scenic grounds of Macpherson House along the Napanee River. Free to attend; butterfly sponsorships are $25, with proceeds supporting free grief counselling. Register by June 25 at countymuseum.ca.
